Dell’s Business Orientated Latitude 6430u Ultrabook now Shipping

Latitude 6430u business Ultrabook

Looking for an Ultrabook which is built purely for business? Well Dell’s latest option, the 6430u, has now started shipping from £699 which is a price only available until January 31st 2013, with £220 off the current real retail price until that date as a special offer. Strangely, that particular machine ships with Windows 7, however you can get the Windows 8 model from £769 which ships with a better processor and internals generally.

The model you want is the Windows 8 one. It features an Intel Core i5-3427U (1.80GHz Turbo, 3MB cache, Dual Core) processor, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD and it weighs just 1.69kg.

Fantastic battery life, average display

Any business person who regaularly uses a laptop will back me up when I say that battery life is a key feature which can make or break a new product purchase. Thankfully, one of the 6430u’s strong points is battery, with a quoted average usage time of 10 hours.

Despite being business orientated, and featuring fantastic quoted battery life, the display isn’t anything to write home about though. It’s a 14-inch (1366 x 768) WLED-backlit panel, so it isn’t going to be as crisp as the screens on most Ultrabooks being shipped during late 2012. If you can get over the display though there are some real selling points to this machine: namely, the 6430u is designed to satisfy the needs of rugged usage, as it features a tough magnesium exterior and spill resistant keyboard. On top of that, you get an Ethernet port, Dell’s Data Protection, encryption, Trusted Platform Module (TPM), and an optional smart card and fingerprint reader two features almost essential for any business environment.

For those who need IT brokerage services or IT parts and IT spares, the Dell Ultrabook should be a good buy. IT parts will become available for this Ultrabook in time due to the natural ageing process of technology and electronics.

If you are in the market for a fully pledged business Ultrabook then the 6430u could be perfect. If there were any nails in the coffin it would be the display as internally everything looks good for the price asked of it.

You can buy or check out the Dell 6430u via the official Dell website here.

About Tim Burtle

My first ever laptop was an old Compaq business machine passed down from my Dad to myself. Whilst great at the time, I believe that over the next 5 years the technology industry is going to be surprised at the rise of the Ultrabook. .

The display is a deal breaker. I want 1080p at least in a business laptop, ridiculous that Dell won’t offer it.

  2. James says:

@Gary @Jake – why do you need 1080p on a business laptop. MS Outlook no crisp enough? HD Excel Pivot tables look better? Does you boss know you watch movies at work?
