Microsoft Windows 8 Store Passes 20,000 App Mark

Windows 8

Windows 8′s marketplace is growing and fast, with over 7000 apps being added within the past 17 days. This number is of course set to grow even further in to the new year, yet for now, there are over 20,000 apps to download.

Windows 8 might very well be in our humble the best version of Windows to ever grace the earth, however that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a few hurdles to overcome. Namely, its app ecosystem is weak currently and in desperate need of high quality applications being submitted to it so that consumers can actually make real use of their brand new tile based start screen. With that said, at least Microsoft have now hit the 20,000 app mark, after the company announced it on social networking site Twitter.

The total number of apps doesn’t say it all

As TNW has noted, though, the total number of Windows 8 apps available to yourself will depend entirely where in the world you are. To summarize, Win App Update says almost 18,000 free apps are in the Windows 8 store, out of more than 20,000. Almost 13,000 of those are available in the US, 14,000 in Canada, and 11,000 in the UK. According to TNW, over 7000 apps have been added to the store over the past 17 days.

Most of the apps available on the store are free, and if you are on the lookout for the best free Windows 8 apps, here is our amazing list of 20 free Windows 8 apps you simply must check out.

Windows 8 has received mixed reviews from consumers since it became officially available in October. For the most part however expert reviews have praised the operating system, citing a new start for Microsoft with great things to come.
